How to combine picture files into a single Tiff file
Hi I am having about 5 picture files which i need to combine ( arranging one below the other) into one single picture file. The final file should in Tiff format. I also want to add some text into the final file. How can I do it. Presently the individual files are in OO Impress and I am able to save them as individual picture files in Tiff format. I tried doing it in Picassa by making collage but the quality is not good. I have Linux Mint and Windows XP. Thanks for your help .

RE: How to combine picture files into a single Tiff file
I have used Gimp both on WinXP and Linux (currently on Linux). It works well on both. Take your pick. If you think you'll quickly become an advanced user, use Linux (test versions/modules are available earlier). On Debian distros (Mint is one AFAIK) Gimp is available in the standard repository. On Windows use the gimp-win installers. One has Python support built-in. Use that.

Once Gimp is installed:

- Create a new picture and specify an image size large enough for your individual pictures (better be too big than too small)
- Open the files as Layers (menu File/open as layers)
- You can open them all together by selecting several files in "Open as layers"
- Open the Layers dialog (Window/Dockable dialogs/Layers or Ctrl-L)
- Order top/down the layers if needed
- If you want to move them around, use the "Move" tool (icon is cross with arrows). If you depress the shift key, it moves the layer selected in the Layers dialog, otherwise it makes a best guess.
- save the resulting file

Normally at that point you have several hundred additional questions Smile For instance you will wonder about rotating/resizing/scaling/cropping layers, transparent areas, scaling the final picture... ask here.

RE: How to combine picture files into a single Tiff file
I was able to make the Tiff file. Thank you very much . The quality is really better compared to Paint or Picassa. As you said , I couldn't figure out how to resize one of the individual picture files so they will go well with the others . Please help. I am using Mint.
