How to Color a One Layer Drawing?
Hi guys!

I have a drawing of my business logo but it is only one layer. What is the best way to color this in gimp? I tried to the magic select tool but im really bad at staying within the lines lol.

RE: How to Color a One Layer Drawing?
Actually the fuzzy select tool is not so awesome and has its pitfalls Smile In fact it need a little help, so see there : http://gimpforums.com/thread-changing-a-...parent-png and read on.

To change the colors of this kind of drawing:

1) get a layer with the logo and transparent background as expounded in the referenced topic. Instead of white spots, this creates partially transparent pixels on the edges of the logo, that blend with the background and that our eyes thus see as nice curved/slanted lines.

2) to change the background color: insert a layer below the logo layer, and paint it completely in the required color (bucket-fill). The partially transparent pixels in the logo will blend the colors just right.

3) to change the logo color: in the Layers dialog, select the logo layer and lock the alpha channel (the check box next to a checkerboard above the layers list). Then paint/bucket-fill the layer in the required color(*). The alpha channel is what controls the transparency, and when locked it remains unchanged during the painting: fully transparent pixels remain transparent and the background shows through, partially transparent pixels also remain and so you still get a nice foreground/background blend on the edges.

(*) If the logo has slight variations of colors (shadows, reflections), paint it in "Hue" mode. This reduce the range of possible changes, but the color change keeps the shadows and reflections.
