But combining a GIF with another image rarely gives good results. The GIF format is limited to 256 colors (colors are indices in a color map) and you have to fit the 256 colors from the GIF plus all the colors in your new image in a new map of 256 colors.

Is this method/plugin/script similar to how they make those high-quality cinemagraphs? Very cool effects!
