How do I make this image transparent?
I am working on an anime picture. I want to have two of the same images, one larger, with no background, and transparent. The other will be just the image. I have that done, but how do I get rid of the checkerboard pattern, it's difficult to work with it in the way. Also, both images move together, how do I stop that from happening?

Please respond soon, I would like to get it done today.

RE: How do I make this image transparent?
The checkerboard pattern isn't really part of the image, it's the top of your drawing table, so to speak, you see it where the image is transparent. If you don't like it put a white layer at the bottom of the stack, and make it invisible before saving. There may be some way to change it using a theme, but all in all, since everybody uses that you've better get used to it (makes your screenshots understandable by all, and makes you understand someone else's screenshots).

If they move together they must be linked (chain link icon in the Layers dialog).

I posted this on another one, but I thought that I may have better luck under "Beginners". I am working on a picture. I've made it transparent and took out the background, but how do I get rid of the checkerboard pattern? Also, both of the images move together, how do I stop that?

Cool, thanks. Also, what size should I make it if I want to put it into a Youtube video?

RE: How do I make this image transparent?
Depends on the size of the video. If the image is only a 'filler' for a soundtrack, its size will have very little influence on the video file size/bitrate anyway.

Thanks! One more thing, how would I go about making certain text and layers to gradually move in my video? Is that even possible in Gimp?

Check the GAP: "Gimp Animation Package" (but at that point it looks more like video editing).
