Rainbow How Do I Make the Lines of an Image Thicker?
Dear Gimp Pros,

I'm using 2.8.6

I'd like to make the attached line about twice as thick. I have searched for hours how to accomplish this to no avail. Any kindness in assisting is so much appreciated.

Struggling a bit because I am on my netbook at the moment (so no Gimp)

Looking at your image - black curve on a white background

Use filter -> generic -> dilate.
http://docs.gimp.org/en/plug-in-dilate.html
"This filter widens and enhances dark areas of the active layer or selection."
you might have to apply a couple of times, as required.

That helped so much - thank you, Rich. After doing what you suggested, I increased the contrast to darken it up a bit and ended with the attached. What a terrific forum. Thanks again for your kind assistance.

Wow. Your line looks totally awesome. I have to thank you for going to great lengths to create instructions for a rather complex task. The instructions were good enough for even me to get a result, though not as good as yours.

I seemed to end up with the gaps here and there that you warned about, though I followed the instructions to the best of my ability. Still, I think the result is the best I have so far. THANK YOU, ofnuts.

Would you have the XCF for your new image?

Hi ofnuts,

I did darken the line, and actually borrowed your exact settings for that operation. The only change I made was in the final step 'stroke path' I used a 3 pixel width rather than a 4. I selected the round corners and tried a 0 and a 10 miter. Either way, I got the gaps, but I liked the slightly thinner line the 3 pixel setting made better. Thanks for your continued interest...

At 3px you have some gaps where the two lines are further apart that the average two pixels.

Hah, I cheated and used the brush to fill in the little gaps on your version. Looks PERFECT. Thanks a million!

I got an almost identical result by using Filters > Artistic > Cartoon, fiddle with the settings and apply multiple times to keep thickening.
