How do I make and object one solid color?
I'm working on a design for a local website's t-shirt contest and I would like to make the motorcycle pictured a solid color. I can't figure out how to do it while keeping some of its definition. It needs to be one solid color and cant have too much shading for screen printing purposes. The smoke seems to be what is throwing me off so much.

The first image is the picture I would like to use (I already trimmed the background out as you can see). The second image is an example of what it needs to look like (last years design) I want to make it white against a black background, because the shirts will be black. Then maybe a red outline or something, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks all!

Yes, a good deal of the design skill is avoiding problems from the start, and picking a picture with a cloud when the final image only has two color levels is going to be hard. Otherwise things aren't that difficult:

- Colors/Desaturate (removes all color)
- Colors/Threshold (only keeps two levels, adjust threshold to taste)
- Changing either color (white or black) isn't difficult (Use Colors/Color to alpha to remove the color you want to change, and insert a layer with the new color under it
- Added points: use an edge-detect filter on a copy of the layer to keep some lines that the thresholding would remove.

Thanks Ofnuts! For some reason I kept blurring the image and that must have been what was throwing me off. I thought it would mellow out the definition with out making it too cartoon-ish, but this worked really well. I never used the edge detect either.

Any ideas what I could do with the smoke? That seems to be my real issue.

Find another picture, unless you want to redraw the picture to remove the smoke.

I really want to use this picture though. Is there any good ways of making may own smoke? Then I could remove most of what's there, and just add my own, but I don't know how to make that look realistic.

On two-color mode, you don't need to be realistic. The whole back of the bike if going to be more of a problem than the smoke.

Any tips on making two dimensional clouds then? The pick is supposed to be of a burnout... so I'm going to end up with this problem regardless. I hate to beat a dead horse, but I think it would look really good.
