thanx will do. oh and i get things off of the internet to put on my banners like headphones for example. Is their a certain filetype or name that r downloaded without a backround? so it goes nicely into my banner without using a magic wand? thanks.

The PNG format supports transparency so you if you want things already cut out look for that format. But uniform backgrounds aren't too hard to remove properly (and the magic wand is not enough), see http://gimpforums.com/thread-changing-a-...parent-png.

I concur with the others, the best format for small to medium web images s PNG. JPG is essentially for photographs.
