How do I crop and resize image??
Hey! What's up, what's happenin all?
Is there a way to just splice my image up into 16 512x512 squares? like a tile set (which by the way I'm sure my math is screwed up on that so if someone can tell me how many squares I need to cut out a 2048x2048 image for 4 on top and 4 on the sides that'd be great. I suck at math)

thanks dudes

I tried copping and stuff but I can't seem to use the tools right. I wrote a lengthy detailed version of this but figured it was too much to read so I am editing/cutting all the details out

Oh yea, also the resize part. nevermind I got it figured, I just had to resize the image and the canvas follows suit. I didn't know that, thought I had to resize canvas first then image like in photoshop.

In L3DT I crop the image and it's easy, the lower left corner is 0,0 (in gimp 0,0 is the top left!!) so this is throwing me off I think and messing everything up.

I just punch in Crop -> x coords 0 to 128 Y coords 0 to 128 in L3dt and boom I have a 128 sized square cut out from the lower bottom left.

So here's what I try in Gimp:

Position 0,2048
size 128x128 - this seems to extend the selection area way out of screen off the image so I tried size -128x-128 which should have reversed selection right? but it doesn't it just resets to 0,o

so I'm at a loss. I thought maybe if I start at position 0, 1920 with size 128x128 it might select where I want, but it's not having it. I really don't want to have to select 16 squares manually and hope I got it all selected properly and evenly.

Is there a way to just splice my image up into 16 128x128 squares? (which by the way I'm sure my math is screwed up on that so if someone can tell me how many squares I need to cut out for 4 on top and 4 on the sides that'd be great. I suck at math)

The position indicator/input fields for the selection or the crop tool display absolute coordinates.

If you want to position squares evenly to cut you image, use "guides" to produce a grid with a 128x128 step (not to be confused with the snap-on grid, which is a different animal), then use Image/Transform/Guillotine that will produce individual images from the squares delineated by the guides.

On the math side: if you have 4 squares across and 4 down, that's indeed 16 squares. However this means your image is 512x512 (4x128) and you seem to have used much bigger numbers above.

alright thanks I'll give it a go. yea my math was messed up what I meant was I need 512x512 squares off the 2048.

Guides don't seem to be workin, I select an area
position 0,1536
size 512,512
create new guide from selection and it selects weird areas that don't look like my selection.

"Image/Guides from selection" doesn't select anything. It only creates guides.

yea I know, but I had to select an area first right? an area for the guides to go by. So I selected a 512x512 area and it made a guide out of that but it didn't splice the image into equal 512 areas as I thought it would, it just drew a line vertically and horizontally the size of the 512 box. I basically thought there was a way to automatically make a guide that has 16 equal 512 chunks.

So basically what I did was manually went around from each guide and made a new guide until I had the 16 parts, took a while but it worked.

Thanks!

If you position 6 guides (three vertical, three horizontal), you can split your image into 16 elements Smile You could also define a 512x512 grid ("Image/Configure grid") and use the crop tool on image duplicates (the Crop would have snapped on the grid). If you think you'll do this often, you can also write a script (or have one written for you).

RE: How do I crop and resize image??
Hi,
I have just come up with a new image crop tool of PHP script from hscripts.com/tools/crop-tool .. It explains you how an image can be cropped and resized accordingly.. Also it lets you to download the newly cropped images and is of free version.. This would be a better guide...
