Wink How Do I Change the Color of this Image
I discovered GIMP 2 days ago and I am pretty excited to get started with it. The only problem is that I am a total newbie. I would really like to change the color of this image from black to blue but I have no idea how to do so and the tutorials that I have found online don't really apply to what I am trying to accomplish. Would someone be so kind as to provide me with step by step instructions on how to do this...I would be so appreciative of your help. Thanks in advance :-)

- "Layer/Transparency/Add alpha channel" (if it's grayed it's already done)
- "Layer/mask/Add layer mask": initialize to "Grayscale copy of layer" and tick the "invert mask". The white will be replaced by a checkerboard pattern, indicating it is now transparent.
- If not done already, start the Layers list (Ctrl-L)
- at the top of the list check the alpha-lock box:
[attachment=843]
(an example here)
- you can now paint or even bucket fill the whole image with the color you want, paint will only apply to non-transparent areas:

[attachment=844]

- you will likely need the image with its transparent background later (adding one if needed is much easier than removing it), so save the image with .PNG extension (preserves the transparency).
- to add a background, add a layer (white or else) completely painted in the requirer color, and insert it just below the layer with your image.

Whoops. Missed a step...
