How do I change Pantone to CMYK?
How do you convert a Pantone color to a CMYK color?

Thanks.

RE: How do I change Pantone to CMYK?
I see it's been several days since you posted this with no answer, and I'm not an expert, but maybe this brief summary will be helpful:

Pantone colors are actual physical swatches printed with ink that are intended as reference standards for color printing. There are two types of Pantone colors: process colors, which can be produced with CMYK inks, and spot colors, which require other pigments. There's something like 1114 Pantone spot colors, and they cannot be reproduced at all with CMYK.

As for the process colors that CAN be reproduced with CMYK, since Pantones are physically printed standard colors the accuracy with which they're transferred to an RGB computer color monitor depends on several factors, including limitations imposed by basic color physics, which means that any images you find of Pantone colors on the web, almost certainly do not PRECISELY match the physical Pantone color swatches. Having said that, you can probably get a *somewhat* close idea of the conversion as follows:

- get an image of the Pantone color (say, with a screen capture)
- open the image in GIMP
- select the color into foreground with the color-picker
- double-click the foreground color to open the "select foreground color" dialog
- click the printer tab in the dialog, and voila! there's the corresponding CMYK

Or, just google "pantone cmyk" (without the quotes), locate your Pantone color, and read off its CMYK value.

BUT!!! CAREFUL!! In general, it's a BAD BAD idea to compose an image on a color monitor and expect it to be exactly reproduced when printed-- the results depend on too many things: the calibration of your color monitor, the printer or printing press, the paper, and so on. If you don't mind minor color shifts, ok, but reviewing a proof copy from the printer is safest.
