How do I add simple animations to gifs?
The title pretty much says it all. I really want to be able to make effects like this: [Image: t5qhib.gif]

Any tips on how to do so in GIMP?

RE: How do I add simple animations to gifs?
A gif animation is essentially just a bunch of different images played as a slideshow at a specific speed. That being said, if you wish to create an affect like this one, you would have to go through each individual frame of the gif and modify it how you would like to. You can open a gif in Gimp and it will separate each from into a new layer for you, so from there you only have to modify those individual layers.

More times than not, however, these types of gifs are actually created in a video editing software of some kind, and then the video is made into a gif, as motion tracking and image overlays are easier to do on a video than on a gif.
