How can I do this?
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to change the colour of this 69 Mustang from red to black?

I have tried the following way:

Duplicate layer -> select object you want to change colour of -> deleting background -> use paintbrush to colour it in to desired colour (in my case black) -> selecting mode: colour/ hue in layer dialogue box.

Unfortunately, this just turns my car into grayscale whereas I want the car to look black as opposed to red....

I am new to GIMP so any help would be appreciated! Thanks

RE: How can I do this?
My technique (work better when changing to a darker color...):

1) duplicate layer
2) "Colors/colorify" and pick you color (in your case this is going to be very dark)
3) move "colorified" layer under original
4) pick up a large brush, put it i color erase mode
5) using the color picker tool, pick a bit of red on the car
6) wipe the area using the brush
7) repeat 5 & 6 ad nauseam on different areas.
8) You can easily change colors by going back to the original and making a new colorified layer.
