Exclamation Help with saving?!
Hey folks. This is my first post. Ive recently upgraded to the new GIMP 2.8 and I cant seem to save files as anything other than gimp project files. I open the extension box to select the file type and there just isnt the option anymore. Can anyone help me with this? Do i have to reinstall GIMP or should I revert back to 2.6? I wouldnt think they would get rid of the ability to save in different formats so there must be a problem somewhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It was a development decision. "Save" and "Save as" are only for the native Gimp file type, .xcf. For other types of files, you use now "Export" or "Overwrite". This decision was made basically because when you save directly in an image type, like .png, rather than gimp's xcf there could be loss of data that you was working in. So the safe way to do it is to work in a .xcf file, then export to the image type you need when finished.
