Help! Text prints out smaller then what`s on screen
Hi, The problem I`m having is that I have some text I want to have printed out. When viewing the image on GIMP the text image is the proper size that I want. When I print it out on my epson printer the text is much smaller. I called Epson and they said it must be a setting in GIMP. Any ideas on how to correct this? The file is a .png file. Any advice you can pass along is appreciated. Thanks

Your screen displays between 95 to 120 pixels per inch PPI). Your printer is at least 150PPI (draft quality) and likely 300 PPI (standard quality), so the 100 pixels that make one inch on your screen print at .33 inches at 300PPI.

You can use the "Image/Print size" menu to change the physical print size or the PPI but you'll notice that they are related, because ( size_in_pixels / PPI = size_in_inches ). This means that without increasing the size of your image in pixels, you'll be using a very low definition for print.

Usually one plans ahead a computer the size of the image in pixels based on the required final print size and definition (the File/New dialog has the necessary options). If you set the right PPI for the image, several tools (in particular the Measure tool) can be used in physical units).

RE: Help! Text prints out smaller then what`s on screen
I have had the same problem as this person, but it is nothing to do with the reply given. My file is set to an image and print resolution of 300 dpi. But the text seems to print at 72 dpi, so it is about 1/4 the size it should be. As a workaround, I change it from editable text layers to be a graphic layer, lose my edit ability, but then it prints correctly. Seems that this is a bug with text and since I noticed this whole text functionality is relatively new, perhaps it is not surprising.

An alternate workaround, though cumbersome, is to scale the image down to 72dpi before printing and then print the low quality version. That's not so great.

I can not really reproduce that. What OS are you using?

The closest I get is exporting to a PDF, then if the font is an 'unusal' one only available to GIMP a PDF viewer will substitute a default font.

Instead of flattening the text layers, try Layer menu -> new layer from visible. That will save the text layers. Make sure it is on top. Then print that
