Sorry, I had a question about recoloring objects black, while keeping parts of the picture white.. I did it with the color contrast tool. It was super simple, I just had forgotten how so I came here to ask... I figured it out again about 30 minutes later.

I've heard that the brightness-contrast filter can reduce the quality of the image.
Consider:
- Rectselect rectangle select, Ellipseselect ellipse select Ellipseselect
or
Fuzzyselect fuzzy select white background "select > invert"

- then "colors > hue-saturation..."
-- Pull the saturation slider all the way down & lightness slider all the way down.

-With the selection still active, if its grey, follow up with :
Colors > levels...
- - On the bottom bar, drag the white triangle to the left.
