help
i just downloaded GIMP hoping for something (a function or a plugin) that will count colored pixels for me. the picture i have is about 1180x650 pixels. I need to count the black pixels. Is there a simple solution?

Yes... use the Histogram (Windows/Dockable dialogs/Histogram)

Right below the histogram you'll find two handles (by default at each end). You can move them to define a range of values (appears in blue), and the pixel count is the count of pixels that fall in that range. For pure black pixels, you want to count the pixels with a value between 0 and 0.

The count of pixels applies to the selection over the active layer (all the layer if no selection) so you can even count the pixels in a given area.
