Hello, howdy, hi
I have recently discovered gimp and of course went looking for a forum and found it. I am a photographer and have been professionally for 29 years, making my living from it for twenty years this summer. I have a small studio in Visalia California and have been using Photo Impact and photoshop but I am no fan of adobe, photo impact has its limitations but is very easy to use and intuitive, of course I have been using it for mor ethen ten years, but the parent company, Ulead was sold to Corel and they have stopped selling it, so I was resigned to migrating to photoshop when I discovered Gimp, I am intrigued. It appears to be a professional editing platform. I am looking forward to learning to get around with its interface.

RE: Hello, howdy, hi
Gimp is a bit limited for photography work at the moment, it only handles 8-bit/channel so color corrections tend to generate artifacts rather quickly, but this usually best done on the raw file (which is really outside of Gimp's realm).

The next version (2.10 or 3.0) will support 16/32-bit and even floating point accuracy.
