Hello Everyone! a quick question...
Hey all, first I want to say that I am not a graphic artist, just a musician who needs to do some of his own artwork for an upcoming album. here is my situation at hand...

I already made the cover art which included some text of the album title, "Space, Flesh & Woe". it is plain text which I edited a bit by taking away some of the hardness and blurring the edges. I would like to use that exact layer of text (edited attributes and all) and use it on a new project ( the back cover). but when I bring it into the new file window, as soon as I try to edit it at all (have the words running horizontal as opposed to their original vertical lay), it goes back to the text before i blurred the edges. so...

how can I reuse a layer of text while retaining it's edited attributes?

sorry if some of my terms are incorrect, again, not a graphic designer, though I love GIMP! and it seems like a great community to become a part of! Thanks again...

Hi. To make it short, you can't... As soon as you do something something with "text" it ceases to be text (it loses the "T" in the Layers list) and becomes a plain image.

And Gimp has no memory of how thing were processed, applying filters isn't adding "attributes", it's changing the pixels.

If you want several simialar looking parts of text, you should either:
- note down everything your did to be able to "replay" it
- write a script (which is the same as above, except the computer will replay it for you)
- plan ahead, put all you text on the same layer, use one single processing chain to achieve required looks, and then cut/paste the right text parts to the right places of the final project.

Ok, I understand. thanks a million for getting back to me so soon. I will be back with more questions at some point in this process. nice to know people are friendly around here. Thanks again...
