Question Having a hard time re-installing GIMP
Hope this is the right place. If not, please move it admins!

So I had an earlier version of GIMP, but somehow ended up with multiple instances of most files. It was taking up WAAAAY too much space, and was slow to start, so I tried deleting the program, then reinstalling. However, if GIMP has an uninstall tool, I didn't think to use it, and now I can't get the new GIMP to install. I keep getting an alert after everything is unpacked that a specific registry error is occurring, specifically:

Error writing to registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\GIMP-2_is1

RegSetValueEx failed; code 5.
Access is denied.

And unfortunately, deleting GIMP-2_is1 from the registry and running the installer as an administrator didn't do anything. Neither did using CCleaner to clean up the registry.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've probably been working on this for four hours...

If it helps, I'm on windows 8, with about 350 GB of remaining hard drive space. Somewhat computer savvy, but not a professional by any means.

Thanks all!
