Gradient Leaves Outline of Text
I am trying to do a mirror effect on text using a gradient on the inverted copy of the text, but this leaves a faint outline of the text in the area I think should have been "gradiented" out. I'm creating .png files, one against a transparent BG and the other against a solid BG. Is there a setting or option I am missing?

If it has anything to do with color-to-alpha or the "color erase" mode then there is an explanation (and a possible fix). If you used another method there is likely an explanation also but I can't find it without knowing more.

I use the method I saw in several tutorials of creating a new image with transparent BG, writing text on the layer in FG color, duplicating the layer, moving the text down, inverting it, doing an alpha to selection to select just the text, add a layer mask, then doing a FG to black gradient on the bottom, inverted text. Then apply the layer mask. Works fine, but leaves the outline where not expected.
