Google earth ground-level view with kmls, panoramic photos and forestry visualisation
Hello everyone,

I am a complete newbie to image processing, coming from GIS and mapping disciplines.
I am trying to do a visual impact assessment for proposed felling of some forest blocks - in the form of a panoramic photo of the area, in which forest blocks of interest would be highlighted. I feel that GIMP has potential to do the work required but I don't have enough knowledge of this tool.

So to briefly illustrate the challenge:
1) Using ArcMap I created shapefiles to mark felling blocks of interest, which I have then converted to kml files and imported to Google Earth. Please follow the link for illustration:

https://ibb.co/fq4QkF or attachment (Hare_topview)

Red and orange - felling blocks of my plan.
Purple and Blue - felling blocks of a neighbouring plan.
Yellow and Blue lines - forest roads, and watercourses respectively.
Yellow arrow marks a vantage point, from which I have taken a panoramic photo.

2) So when all is imported to google earth, I can go to street view mode and then to ground view mode, at the vantage point (marked by yellow arrow in section 1 picture).
At ground level I can see an image like that:

While the areas of interest are visible, the image is of rather poor quality and not good for presentation purposes.

3) So I want to copy the areas of interest from ground level view in google earth (section 2) and drape these over a panoramic photo which can be found below:

https://ibb.co/gMC0Ka or attachment (Hare_v_point_pano)

I'm aware taht groudn level image from google earth is of different scale and poorer quality than panoramic photo, however it is easy to find reference points in both of these to perhaps align them (streching groudn level image to the size of panoramic one in accordance to features on the ground etc..)

4) I am aiming for an end product which would look like that:

In my case, there are fewer blocks to visualise, but the whole idea is the same.

The result has to be indicative but not necessarily 100% accurate - the more automated and efficient the process the better.

Any help or advice on this quest would be profusely appreciated.

Thanks,
Augustas
