Gimpshop?
Hey guys! (dunno where to post this)

I just found a site called GimpShop and I don't know if it is a branch/part of GIMP itself, or if it's GIMP being exploited.

www.gimpshop.com

If anyone could let me know anything about it, thank you!

RE: Gimpshop?
AFAIK under the Gimp license, it can be rebundled providing the terms of the license are included and stated.

Gimpshop does this big but

They use a bespoke installer that includes all sorts of addware (I suppose money is made from these) to clutter up your web browser.

That bit of it has their own license terms which to be fair are not much different from most.
quote..Try to decompile or reverse engineer any software that appears on Software’s web site; iv. Remove from the materials any copyright or other proprietary notations..unquote.

Last time I looked at it, their version of Gimp was well out of date, 2.8.0 or 2.8.2 latest version is 2.8.10
and it was just a straight forward Gimp, nothing special.

My advice leave well alone, get a standard GImp from ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/windows/

I believe that their server is frequently overloaded as all the ex-PS users download Wink
Any problems try one of the mirrors listed here http://gimpforums.com/thread-gimp-server-down-message

or get another good version that comes with lots of extras at http://www.partha.com

edit: an update
A quick run in a virtual machine and it offers to install

Linkury smart bar software
Yula (and anything Yula might like to install thereafter)
PC OptimizerPro
Tidy Networks links

It does give the option to decline installation of these and then goes on to install a standard Gimp 2.8.0 (more than a year old).

Why bother with this hassle when you can get a clean installation from gimp.org

While Gimp is a free and I also believe that it can be rebundled under the conditions that rich stated, I am leaning more towards the fact that they are doing this for their own gain rather than having any major changes to the program. The main reason I say this is because their tutorials and their blog posts are just stolen tutorials. For example, the most recent blog post is actually a tutorial made by me, and they in no way contacted me about it, and I am not using "Gimpshop." While I don't really mind as they are not claiming credit and are linking my Youtube, the fact that they are claiming it was made in Gimpshop leads me to believe that you're better off either downloading the latest version of Gimp, or another option rich stated previously.

That falls into The GIMP being exploited nicely yes!

@Wyrlor: those jerks, claiming you used their repackaging of GIMP to make your tutorial. When will that fake site get shutdown >_<

I really don't mind all that much since they did link my Youtube video. The aim of my channel is to help people as well as get my name out there, so I'm not too upset about it. Although it would have been nice if they asked, I would have happily agreed Tongue
