I can't seem to find a Gimpshop download that works. they all load unwanted crap and then run Gimp 2.8. Help me

It is not a scam as such, but their claims are ill-founded. They have wrapped a regular gimp in their own installer. I don't even think it is the most recent version.

Get your M$ windows Gimp from here.

Just to confirm what I previously wrote, the installation wrapper is a 'bespoke' file that eventually downloads and installs Gimp
Unfortunately it will try and install all sorts of other rubbish. Not illegal, you will have agreed to this. You can decline them.
This is not all of them, There are 6 declines to be made but the 'install uninstaller' (sic) is the last.

To add insult to possible injury unlike the old GimpShop (gimp 2.2) which had its own icon set, GimpShop is just a regular version and not even up to date.

OP wanted an installer that works, get the regular gimp installer from sourceforge.
