Gimp Used in Education Image Design Course
Hello, I am an online teacher with K12 Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy and the school utilizes your program for our Image Design & Editing Course. They have 12 projects in which they have to complete each semester and we have had a myriad of issues. One of the main issues is, when you try to follow the step by step, it asks you to “save” the image, which NEVER works, it ALWAYS gives an error. However, if you export it…it works…can you help me with this? Also, it gives an error on all of my students programs when they have to use Script-FU.

I must point out that this forum is very much a "user" forum and is not connected to Gimp development in any way.

This is just a guess, if incorrect, then you have some serious problems with the version of Gimp you are using.

I think that your documentation is maybe lagging behind how the current Gimp 2.8.x series works.

Since the introduction of Gimp 2.8.x, Gimp will only "save" in its native .xcf format. If you want a jpg or png or tiff file then you have to "export" your work.

This is a rational change to prevent users inadvertently losing information such as layers, masks, selections, editable text. etc.

If after all your editing, you want a jpeg for say, a web page, then export it.

Does your error message maybe look like this.

The latest Gimp release, Gimp 2.8.10 as a panacea to the file saving challenged has introduced a twist to this scheme. Try and "save" a file with a non-xcf suffix and it
1. warns you as before
2. gives an option to go to the export dialog.

More info required, but I have seen similar when an inexperienced user is trying to run a script manually, rather than using it via the Gimp menu it is set up for.

Give an example of an errant Gimp script.

The education of image design is very important and helpful for successful creation of design and sketches.

... That doesn't really help her with the errors Stewart23.

but I also think its a mistake of using the "save as" and "export" feautures.
