GIMP tools locking;tool options window flickers.
For whatever reason, Ill be working in GIMP when the tools decide to not behave; I go to select a different tool and instead of switching by mouse click, (i.e. pen to eraser), the currently active dialog flickers with a black outline. I end up having to hit enter to select the tool or use the keyboard shortcut. This also applies to buttons (such as [okay] or [cancel]); the mouse selects when I click, but doesn't do anything. Working within the selection, on a visible layer (not a floating selection). I've reset all setting to their defaults, check to see if it's my mouse (which it isn't) and am using the latest version of GIMP) Any help?

What OS do yo use? On WIndows some "security software" is known to create issues with Gimp's mouse handling (Kapersky, in particular).

That seems to have worked; I'll give it a day.

Sorry for long overdue reply; GIMP still has the same issue after disabling Norton, any other help?

Did you reboot at the time? What kind of other software have you got permanently running (anything in the system tray is suspect here).

Reboot does nothing; in the system tray? Synaptics pointing device, WLAN ON(Wifi, I'm guessing?), Norton Internet Security, Realtek HD Audio Manager, Safely remove Hardware.

This is what is running. ^

Is there perhaps a debug log that can be of any use?

But more simply, since AFAIK the Synaptics driver means you have a laptop with a touchpad, it could be due to some unwanted touchpad/button interaction. I used to have belt with a buckle that clicked a button at the front. Took me a while to figure out, especially since I had just moved to Linux at the time, so of course I suspected a bad driver.

What do you suppose I do? I disable the touchpad entirely, and said problem still come up. I should also mention that this still happens with older versions of GIMP (like 2.6).

Hi Zenta, you have probably checked all these things anyway as the first post was back in June...

Do you have any other devices like gamepads, joysticks, drawing tablets, trackballs etc. plugged in that might be conflicting?

Are you sure you have completely turned Nortons off, what made you believe at first it had fixed the problem? Is it happening every time you try to select a tool or just intermittently?

Honestly haven't tried this, but if you are confident with your Laptop and Windows, have you considered starting Windows in 'Safe Mode'.
Then try running Gimp. That should eliminate at least some external software interaction?

Safe mode doesn't help. However, the issue seems to only happen when opening jpegs with names in all caps (SCAN180jpg for example) and I have no other hardware plugged in.
