Gimp server down message
I just started using GIMP last week and I love what it can do. Just yesterday I was unable to connect to GIMP online with any of my computers ( two windows 7 desktops and an ipad). The messages I get are server down or unable to connect. I can even find the user guide that I downloaded last week. Is it me or is there something going on with their servers. I need the user guide badly since I am just starting out. Thanks

Yes, the servers are down. I was told it was for the Earth Hour, but it's a long hour (or the maintainers got confused due to the DST change in the EU last night).

Well I'm glad it's not something I did. I had downloaded the user guide and cannot locate it. Is there a default location and is the file name gimp user guide?

Most browsers have a default download location. But usually their download manager remembers what has been downloaded and where it was stored, The subject file can be opened from the download manager, which also often has the option to open the parent folder in the file explorer.

Just for information
It is always worth trying the 'waybackmachine' the last snapshot was 29 March

http://web.archive.org/http://www.gimp.org/ can be a bit flaky getting through

There is a long list of mirrors, a few following.
A little navigating around required, Win users, look for the windows folder.

Tried the Irish, French and Uk mirrors, seem ok

All this probably not required and the main site will be up soon.

Changes to Gimp mirrors

The old mirrors are still there, but will not receive versions after Gimp 2.8.10

At the moment (4 October 2014) use one of these for the latest Gimp

^^^ Still good backup sources when gimp is down for maintenance, thanks for posting rich!

@btwilson: what browser are you using?
I can help you find the download folder / history
if using Chrome, push both "ctrl" + "J" to bring up the download folder.
Or click the 3 lined icon right of the address bar & click on "downloads"

Then click the link "show folder" under your file to bring you to the folder its downloaded to.

In most cases it will download to your windows 7 downloads folder (found in "File Explorer" aka explorer)
