GIMP/GAP and relations with Adobe ImageReady and Cinepaint

In previous thread ( I asked for using GIMP to animation and I received information about GAP. Actually, I have not used it yet.

In video editing discussion people says it could be useful to use image/simple animation generated previously in image software.

Looking around for animation tools I found information about "Adobe ImageReady" and "Cinepaint (". This latter mentioned its very powerful capability to deal with animations, including use in "Hollywood" productions.

Anyway, I am loving GIMP and I would like to try explore it (an its plugins) as most as possible.

So, could anyone tell me if GIMP is able to give me similar results than "Adobe ImageReady" and "Cinepaint"?

Is the plugin GAP the solution? Is there anything more to handle in GIMP?

Thanks in advance,
