Gimp freezes when scanning from Dell printer and selecting Gimp as the image program
every time I use my Dell Printer and go into scanning and select 'scan to' and select Gimp as the image program. Gimp freezes for eternity on Gimp Startup and I HAVE to 'end process'!!! end task DOES NOT work!! how do I fix this while scanning directly into Gimp???

Another case of micro$oft press-n-wish, although it might be a problem if your printer/scanner is a wireless connection.

However, in Windows, it should be a TWAIN device and Gimp should pick it up.

A better way to scan into Gimp.

File -> Create -> Scanner/Camera
Select the Source (scanner)
That should bring up the Scanner dialog.
Do a preview, if necessary, select the scan area.

Perform the scan, and it goes straight into Gimp.

As Ofnuts says, the scanner will be capable of more than the Gimp 24 bit colour depth. So for other than cartoons try and scan directly to an image, not an application.
