The current release of Gimp 2.8.14 is somewhat buggy, Use Gimp 2.8.10 for the moment.

This has not come up for a while so...

AFAIK you will have to generate your own log file.

These screenshots are a Win 7 ult 32 bit VM and Gimp 2.8.10 Works perfectly, but this is a very clean Win 7 installation, with just the basic fonts, no extra applications, such as AV that can interfere with Gimp.

First open a windows command window, type cmd in the search box, hit enter

Then in the console type in the command
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Gimp 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe"  --verbose
note the quotation marks because of the space in program files and also put a space between exe" and --verbose

This will output to the console but if you want a file for reference add a little to the end of the command

"C:\Program Files\Gimp 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe" --verbose > some location for a log file
I used
"C:\Program Files\Gimp 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe" --verbose > c:\Users\your-id\Desktop\gimplog.txt

put your user name in for your-id

Run Gimp until the crash
The console will look like this http://i.imgur.com/NTZBQGc.jpg
the log file like this. http://i.imgur.com/v4DKmOm.jpg

From past experience it does not always give an exact indication of the error. Often terminates with a catch-all 'wire-read error' or similar. Worth a try though.
