Exclamation Gimp crashes everytime I try to open a file
I am running 2.8 with Windows 7 64 bit.
This just started today. I had done a picture, then closed out gimp. When I reopened it, I could no longer open files in Gimp. I can start gimp, then click on open files, and scroll through the files, and as soon as I select one, it whites out and says Gimp has stopped responding.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, same issue.
I tried jpeg, png, and xfc files, none will load.
Help please!

RE: Gimp crashes everytime I try to open a file
Very little point reinstalling Gimp, I wonder why Windows users always resort to this?
Gimp is 98% self contained, the 2% is your C:\Users\name\.gimp-2.8 folder

First thing, rename that .gimp-2.8 folder to say .gimp-2.8bakup and restart Gimp, see if there is any difference.

Failing that, you have probably answered the question yourself.

Was working yesterday. Not working today. What happened between yesterday and today?

Did you install / update / get some of those silent M$ updates / change some settings? The answer will be in there.

Check in you task manager of you haven't got a lingering Gimp process by any chance. Kill it if so.

The reason I uninstalled and reinstalled was because several of the sites I checked suggested it. And its not running in task manager. I got it to work the other day, then boom, it started doing it again today. I haven't installed any updates either.

RE: Gimp crashes everytime I try to open a file
The principle still applies. Was working before, Not working now. What changed between "before" and "now".

Some stats, The windows Gimp 2.8.x installer from Sourceforge. 224,187 downloads to date.

That means 224,186 installations do not suffer the same problem. Not to say there are no bugs and faults in Gimp but be aware of outside factors.

If you have had no new updates or downloads and have not changed Gimp in any way. What is new? Changed any security settings? A virus scanner issue? A different open/save location? Only you can determine what has changed.
