Don't use Gimp... use ImageMagick's convert command. It can be as simple as:

Code:
convert some.pdf some.png

Of course, there are also a bazillion options for output size, pages to convert, etc... but ImageMagick also has a very helpful user forum. ImageMagick is free and open source, like Gimp, and is available on about every system you can think of.

There are also ways to do it with Gimp in batch mode, but trust me, it will be simpler (and faster) with ImageMagick.
