Gimp 2.8 won't start on Windows Vista
Goes straight to a black box that says not responding then gets to looking for data files and then windows takes over and searches for a solution before shutting the whole works down. Takes about 30 secs.

I just installed this because 2.6 was doing the same thing. I am a rank novice and do not have a collection of paintbrushes and whatnot as suggested in other threads.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks!

RE: Gimp 2.8 won't start on Windows Vista
Normally next to the gimp.exe file there is a gimp-console.exe. Start this one instead and see what messages you get (in particular what are the last ones).

You may have a name conflict between an EXE or DLL distributed with Gimp and one already on your system. From memory, HP machines (and peripherals such as printer/scanners) install some intl.dll in windows/system32 that conflicts with a like-named DLL in the Gimp installation.
