I posted the original problem back in May. I just updated to 2.8.2 today and still have the same issue. I read through the bug report, http://bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/at...id=227566, and at the bottom of the report a patch is discussed by a user named Massimo Valentini, which supposedly fixes the issue. How do a get an updated version with that Patch?

Thanks.
Well, as you can see, the patch has been created today, so it will be tested (at least they will check that no user courageous & skilled enough to build his own version is negatively impacted. Then at some point in the future (about a couple of months) it will show up in a 2.8.3.

So what do I do in the mean time? I'm not a scripting whiz and I need to be able to create graphics with text around circles.

Use my script... (see post #2 in this thread). Using a script doesn't require scripting skills...

RE: Gimp 2.8 Text along Path
Thanks for the information. I downloaded your script. I have a MAC so I loaded it into two folders:

/Users/.../Library/GIMP/2.8/plugins
/Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

which is where .py files go on a MAC

I also changed the file in both locations to be executable by doing: chmod *755 text-along-path-2.0.py (something you might consider adding to your user help)

Then I started Gimp and created a 640 x 400 image with a 200 x 200 circle. I tried putting the following text along a path: "POLLINATING THE WORLD WITH LOVE" and it still cuts off part way through the word WORLD.

What I am trying to do in 2.8 is create a logo with the word's "POLLINATING THE WORLD WITH LOVE" at the top and "THROUGH SIMPLE ACTS OF KINDNESS" at the bottom. See below.
.tiff  gimp-text-along-path-issue.tiff (Size: 30.19 KB / Downloads: 105)

While I was waiting for your reply to my previous message, I went ahead an uninstalled 2.8 and went back to 2.6 and was able to create the logo.

When I saw your reply I uninstalled 2.6, deleted all the gimp related folders, etc., and installed 2.8 and then installed the update. I then did what I described above and got the same results I was getting before even with your script installed. Not sure what do do now.

Thanks for your help.

RE: Gimp 2.8 Text along Path
Ofnuts text plugin works like this all-in-one-composite-screenshot

1. make the path
right-click in the paths dialog to bring up the context menu
at the bottom is the plugin entry, click on that to get the dialog.

2. enter the text and any parameter adjustments in the dialog

3. Ok that to get the path.

The only thing you dont get are the tweaks in font/size.

I appreciate your reply. However, Gimp 2.8.3 for MAC OS X doesn't have the options you're showing in the version above. See my attachment.

As you can see, the MAC version doesn't have the "Smooth Path" or "Tools" options. I looked everywhere I can think of to find them and can't. Any more suggestions?

RE: Gimp 2.8 Text along Path
These entries are added if you have installed additional plugins. "Tools" is added by the mentioned text-along-path plugin.

RE: Gimp 2.8 Text along Path
As I indicated in my previous post, I have installed the script in both places indicated in the preferences as to where the plug-ins are supposed to go, or at least where I think they are supposed to go.

/Users/dad/Library/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins

The attachment shows the permissions for the file.

/Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

The attachment shows the permissions for the file.

When GIMP loads, I see the scripts being loaded and the text-along-path file is included. I'm not sure what else to do.

I appreciate your help.

In your image window, have you got the menu entries "Filters/Python-fu" and "Filters/Render/Clouds/Fog.." if not you have not got Python support in your Gimp installation).

RE: Gimp 2.8 Text along Path
One of the problems here is that there are not many MAC users around and none so-far responding.

Not being a MAC user, these are just my thoughts.

Location
Never a good idea to duplicate scripts and plugins in different locations. If one location is not working don't leave the plugin there, remove it, even if just for the sake of tidiness.
Searching around there is lots of advice such as here:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/gimpusers/d...303919371/
and others would indicate that Contents > Resources > lib > gimp > 2.0 > plug-ins. is a good location.

Use a different location altogether. This is good for win/linux and one report from a MAC user who added a folder under "Documents"
You can have any location provided you tell Gimp where it is.
Menu Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> plug-ins
Are the locations for plugins that you used the same as those listed in your preferences.
Same rules as anything else, avoid spaces in folder/file names like the plague.

Permissions
looking here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 gives
"Since each entity has its own permission, an example of a complete permission set could look like "-rwxrw-r--"
You might have to apply chmod 777 rather than 755

Does the plugin work at all?
Have you installed any other plugins that work? If yes, then maybe the plugin does not work in a MAC.

Finally - as Ofnuts said his plugins appear under a sub-menu 'tools', the smooth-path plugin is from someone else.

RE: Gimp 2.8 Text along Path
Okay. Just for giggles I completely uninstalled gimp and deleted all the folders related to it. I then installed 2.8. Under Filters, Python-Fu was there and has only the Console option. Was there supposed to be anything else? Filters/Render/Clouds/Fog was not there. The I installed 2.8.2 and the Python-Fu folder was gone.

How do I get my python support back?

I also tried putting the plug-ins in different folder and pointed to the folder in preferences. That didn't help.

Any help you can give is appreciated. I may just have to go back to 2.6. Text along path works just fine in that version.
