".gimp-2.8" folder. How to move?
There is a folder called .gimp-2.8 that's in my personal folder (users/myname). I want to move it somewhere else. When I delete it, it just comes back when I start Gimp again. How do I tell Gimp I want to put it in a different location? Thanks for your help!

IMHO falls in the not-a-good-idea category.

You can do it this way (caveat - a quick test in a Win7 - 32 bit - Gimp 2.8.10)

Start Gimp from a batch file setting the environmental variables HOME and GIMP2_DIRECTORY pointing to the new gimp profile location.

looks like this with some hints: http://i.imgur.com/kpdrLUJ.jpg
edit: that gimp folder is .gimp-2.8 copied and renamed

looks like this running http://i.imgur.com/Zf1knQM.jpg and you can check the new profile location.

I think a better way is use a 'portable Gimp' where the whole installation is where you want it. This can exist side-by-side with a standard Gimp but is completely separate.

Quick background
Gimp was first developed in a Unix environment, it is still developed in linux not Windows.
Unix type systems assume several users will share the same application but will want their own set up.
Hence the home/.gimp-2.8 profile configuration folder.
