Bug Gimp 2.8 fails to start
As stated in the thread, my Gimp program had just started to stop loading today, after it was working fine earlier this afternoon. I either select the program itself or an xcf file, and it starts to load with the green bar and everything. At about 3/4 into loading, right when it gets to "Tool Presets", windows informs me the program has stopped working and says it will notify me if it finds a solution.

I run the program on Windows 8. Does anyone have an idea what the problem may be? Or a solution?

RE: Gimp 2.8 fails to start
The best solution would be to download a Linux distro and install onto your harddrive along with Windows 8 - A dual boot system. Ubuntu makes it easy, and when you start your computer you are given a choice of Linux or Windows.

Try DreamStudio, which is based on Ubuntu. The developer recently posted to these forums at:

I'm using ArtistX, which is also based on Ubuntu.

RE: Gimp 2.8 fails to start
I don't think I would want to give my laptop two operating systems to run on...that sounds like an invitation for harddrive overload.

It's been working fine for months on Windows; I really don't think the problem is the OS

If this fails, start 'gimp-console.exe --verbose' in a command prompt and report the messages.
EDIT: Try ofnuts suggestion first. This seems to be a new common problem.

Hangs while loading tool presets huh? Did you install any plugins?

If you can remember, what did you do last in Gimp before the time you started with the crash.

Example: Did you change any settings before closing gimp, or the project you were working on(saving) did you encounter any errors before closing gimp.

Have you updated win8, changed any system or firewall settings or installed any new programs before the time that Gimp started to act up?
