gif quality?
hi guys! i'm having a little trouble with my gifs. they look like this when i'm making them:
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0v7pntCBj1r8at0a.png
and then when it's finished, it comes out like this:
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0v6pg...o1_500.gif

i was wondering if there was any way to fix the quality of it, or anything i could do different. thanks in advance!

RE: gif quality?
Not really. Characters look in your original smooth because the border pixels have a variable (and partial) transparency. But GIF transparency is all or nothing. You have tow choices:

1) If you aren't doing animation, use PNG instead of GIF. For all other purposes PNG is better (full RGB spectrum instead of just 256 colors, and partial transparency), and is supported by all browsers.

2) Since you use animation and have to stick with GIF, you can use "Layers/Transparency/Semi-flatten". This replaces partially transparent border pixels by fully opaque pixels that are what you would obtain on a background with the current background color. But that means that your image will properly show only in the right background, so this isn't much more useful that having a plain rectangular image with an opaque background (in your image, it's even a bit more complicated since the text parts overlap so the background is not really uniform). And semi-flatten may require a lot of different tones, all taken from the 256-color limit in GIF, so you may have difficult choices to make in some cases.

Left to right:
- Original text with partial transparency
- GIF equivalent
- After semi-flatten for white background
- The same on a non-white background (note the white border)
