Floating Selections, how they behave...
Hello all,

Just starting with Gimp.

I am trying to move one section of a JPEG to another part of the image.

I selected it, and then cut and pasted it to where I wanted it. It moved fine, but now it is permanantly a floating selection. Whenever I try to select another part of the image, the part I have moved dissapears.

The only way I can seem to fix this is to anchor the layer, but then I can no longer edit it (I want to erase part of it).

Can anyone help me please?

What I normally who is I copy a part of an image (CTRL+C) and then I paste it on the same layer with CTRL+V, but I then press SHIFT+CTRL+N to paste it into a new layer.

You can also press SHIFT+CTRL+A to deselect a selection.

and I do that so I can edit the pasted selection how I want, and I can merge it into another layer once done.

THanks for the help.

THe problem is I have already cut and paste the section, so I cant re-do that. And now the floating selection stays selected, even when I try CTRL SHIFT A..It stays selected...

Update... The problem is really just that once I achor the layer, I cant erase part of it..It cant seem to be edited once it has been anchored. Is there any way to do this?
