Fixing Clouds/bright sky using gimp 2.8
Hey everyone,

I've been taking some pictures on my gopro hero 3 (i know it sucks for this purpose but it's what I have) and retouching them but I find that it always gives me really bright skies - partly due to my poor photography skills and partly due to the camera not meant for this purpose.

Anyhow, I'm going to post my photo and hopefully someone can shed some light on how I should go about either cloning or fixing the sky on the left side in whatever way you guys see fit. I'm a complete beginner and I'd like to learn enough to make whatever pictures I take using my cameras look better.

Thanks

RE: Fixing Clouds/bright sky using gimp 2.8
Here's a couple ways (basic to advanced)
-------------
You could use the clone stamp tool at a big setting, soft brush.

With Clone (clone stamp tool)
- Pick a soft brush "2. Hardness 075 works nice"
Then choose a size anywhere from 250.0 to 300.o
- click + hold ctrl(command) once to define your source
Then click & draw to the left.

=========
Alternate way
You could also copy with the rectangle select Rectselect
Flip the new layer with Flip flip tool.
Drag the layer to the light cloud spot.
Then on layers window, right click on the layer.
"Add layer mask"
Blend with blend tool, apply/draw gradient blend, longer the line softer the blend.

==========
*OPTIONAL and more automatic*

For a more adventurous and slightly more realistic way:
Install the re-synthesizer plugin
(Heal-selection)
Make a loose selection with the Freeselect lasso or Ellipseselect ellipse select tool
Then (only after plugin is installed)
Filters > Enhance > Heal-selection

If I can use your image, I can show you what the 2 last methods will look like(in a video)
Let me know and I'll make it early/late friday.

Thanks so much for the responses. Thanks guys I'll attempt it myself tomorrow.

And iForStyle007 I don't mind at all if you use it in a video, in fact I'd really appreciate it.

RE: Fixing Clouds/bright sky using gimp 2.8
Hi,
I apologise for my delay in posting.
I used the fuzzy select tool to select the bright area of clouds on the left side of your image.
Used the flip tool (horizontal) on the selection.
Feathered the selection slightly.
Copied the clouds in the flipped selection.
Pasted as New Layer.
Select None.
Now flip the new layer horizontally.
Created a new layer from visible.
Used the Heal tool on the joining edges between the areas of new clouds and old.

Ok, here it is, really all the above tutorials will work also, this is for better visuals on steps & can be related to tools used.

Also sorry for lateness & lack of previous examples, I got ahead of myself, plus I typo-ed, meant Saturday & then we had home projects that came up LOL. Anyways, got around to making a quick video.
