RE: First Attempt
OOOoooOO! Very dreamy background, I like it, but if you plan to put text (like your screen name) on it, You might want to have a white outline a few inches thick(or 1 px thick) to make it easier to read.

Ideas on Text outline how-to:
- 1. Try to pick a bold text(better for outlines) Sans bold is nice(if you want it more elegant/fancy/different style you can try other fonts but try this one first just to test it out.)
Make a Font layer(typing your screenname or whatever), then duplicate it, change the font color to white by highligting the text and clicking the color in the "Tool Options"
2. Move this white text to the right, up, down or left a few times to off set it from the original text underneath. This is so you can drag/move it around when you put it under your text.
2.Next drag your white outline layer(white text) under the colored text and you should have a white border around some of the text. Re-adjust the outline how you want it.

-Another way is to try using stroke selection
1. Have your font layer, same font (Sans Bold)
Then use the fuzzy select/wand tool and click the background around the text, the text should now have a background around it.
2. Push ctrl + I (invert) or go to "Select > Invert" the text will now be selected
*Make sure your swatch color square in the Toolbox is selected on white before you do the next step.
3. Go to "Edit > Stroke Selection"
-check "Stroke Line" "Solid Color" [x]Antialiasing
Line width: 1.0 px or more(test this)
Expand the "[+]Line Style" in the Stroke Selection window(the one with above settings) then...
Dash Preset: Line
Finally, click ok and you should end up with an outline like one of these:

method#2

For inside the letter, repeat the process only fuzzy select the space inside the letter, if this is an issue, the duplicate layer method might be better.
.
.
Other then that, nicely done! oh and early HAPPY HALLOWEEN! ^_^
EDIT: For my sig text, I just changed the layer mode to one that is stands out from the background "grain extract" I think.
