What did not work? Downloading the python script. Removing .txt bit at the end. Putting it in the plug-ins folder. Making the script executable. Best bet that last one.

In your Gimp profile.

So I think I've found where the file goes but do I have to do anything to the .py file besides copy it into the file.

Aw, yes, on OSX you also have to make it "executable". If this is not doable through some "file properties" dialog in the file explorer, open a terminal and do
Code:
chmod +x /path/to/the/file

RE: Exporting Multiple Layers Into Images (PNG, JPG, etc)
Hi, I'm new to gimp and this forum.

I currently have gimp 2.8 for Windows 8.1, along with python34. I extracted the export_layers.py and the export_layers directory into the plug ins folder. I also installed the Photo Effects (http://registry.gimp.org/node/97) plug in into scripts, if that will help. I have no other modifiers.

The Export Layers plug in isn't working for me. When I open up Gimp, I see the 'export layers' and 'export layers to' options. However, when I use either one, the program is completely white, windows says "pythonw.exe is not working', closes it, and then gimp displays:

Plug-in crashed: "export_layers.py"
(C:\Users\Hendrik\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\export_layers.py)

The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

I re-extracted the export_layers.zip or whatever it was called, in case there was an error in the extraction, but it still doesn't work. Do I have an incorrect version of python, or what went wrong? Thank you in advance for your help.

RE: Exporting Multiple Layers Into Images (PNG, JPG, etc)
Gimp for Windows comes with its own Python interpreter, and this is a Python 2.7. It can be made to coexist with a system-wide interpreter but this requires some care.

You should first check that you have a working Python support in Gimp:
- Filters>Python-fu>Console is working
- Filters>Render>Clouds>Fog is working (a far as showing a dialog for parameters)

RE: Exporting Multiple Layers Into Images (PNG, JPG, etc)
caveat:
1. This thread starts in 2011 and parts are out of date
2. I can get a Win8 working in a VM but not at the moment

Quote:..I currently have gimp 2.8 for Windows 8.1, along with python34...

Gimp 2.8 comes with an in-built python, so is there any other purpose to install Python. Gimp uses python 2.7 so there could very well be a confict.

Only helps if you say where you got the export_layers.py from. Photo Effects is ancient, do not think all of it works but I will check.

That is not the python plugin referenced earlier http://registry.gimp.org/node/18440

give a link to that file or whatever it was called, maybe someone with Win 8.1 can try it.

Very probable

edit:
This one maybe? https://github.com/khalim19/gimp-plugin-export-layers

If it is any consolation, does not work here either. screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/KkHihIW.jpg

Edit again:
Revisiting the old photoeffects, use the newer ev_iccii_photoeffects_246c.zip, & read the readme.txt

Mostly works, you find the entries in Filters -> Decor -> Photo Effects.

Most of these effects (+ a lot more) have been superceded by more recent plugins such as G'mic
http://gmic.sourceforge.net/

RE: Exporting Multiple Layers Into Images (PNG, JPG, etc)
A new day, different machines

To be fair to the export-layers.py plugin author it does work.

In a Win7 VM, with no extra python installation, looks like this http://i.imgur.com/wEePOhB.jpg

The plugin notes do say that the format save dialog pops-under so you need to look for the extra icon in the toolbar.

what you need in your plug-ins folder - 1 folder + 1 plugin http://i.imgur.com/F0tIbD3.jpg

Also works in my regular PCLOS Gimp 2.8.14 linux machine.
