RE: Error on loading GIMP
Is it Gimp that crashes or the installation program? Did you check it was correclty downloaded (md5sum)? What operating system are you using? Which version of Gimp did you download? from which site?

RE: Error on loading GIMP
No, GIMP has no dependency on .NET as far as I know...
Start Gimp from a command prompt with a --verbose parameter, and see if it says something before dying. This could be a plugin acting up. ![]() |

RE: Error on loading GIMP
(Feb 18, 2011 18:42)jmhsarmiento Wrote: Windows XP... 1) Locate where the gimp executable is on your system: if using the default location, something like: c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0\bin\gimp-2.6.exe you will also find c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0\bin\gimp-console-2.6.exe 2) In the startup menu: All Programs/Accessories/Command prompt that will produce a window with a prompt: c:\Documents and Settings\{your id} 3) Try two things: "c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0\bin\gimp-2.6.exe" --verbose (where "c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0\bin\gimp-2.6.exe" is where you found the executable (and to put in in double quotes!)). This will open a window with more messages telling you what Gimp is doing during its initialization process. With some luck this window will stay around when Gimp crashes and you can report the last messages here. If you can't read the messages, try: "c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0\bin\gimp-console-2.6.exe" --verbose this mode is used to execute Gimp in batch mode, so don't expect a Gimp window to show up, the messages will appear in the windows where you entered the command. Use Ctrl-C to quit Gimp if it doesn't crash all by itself. In both cases you'll find command to select and copy text from these windows if you click on the window icon at the left of the title bar. Symantec Endpoint Protection has a lot going against it but I don't think it's the culprit here. All the above isn't geekery, it's in the power of a moderately informed Windows user, so at worse you can find someone to help you do it. ![]() |

RE: Error on loading GIMP
Possible Simple Fix:
Is your XP fully up to date also? You have to have Service Pack 2 for it to work too |
