erase delete question
Hi, I have recently migrated from Photoshop. I would like to know if it possible, when I delete or erase part of a layer, to have the layer behind show through, rather than having the deleted area be painted with the background color.

Thanks for the excellent software!

RE: erase delete question
Yes... In the menu bar: Layer/Transparency/Add Alpha channel (similar entry on the popup menu in the layers dialog). The "background layer" (the JPG/PNG you open with Gimp) has no transparency by default, but all other layers you'll add will have an alpha channel by default.

RE: erase delete question
Thanks for the help!

These little differences in behavior between GIMP and Photoshop often stymie me... I am guessing that others have this experience as well.
