Embedding Fonts for PDF?
Have just put the finishing touches on a book cover and now need to embed the fonts plus the following. Can I use GIMP to do this?

Fonts and images are embedded.
Bookmarks, annotations, and comments are disabled.
Document security (any type) is not used.
PDF/X format is used. PDF/X is preferred, but if you are submitting non-PDF/X files (for example, PDF/A), any comments, forms, or other non-printing objects could be removed during our review process.
Transparent objects are flattened.
Spreads and printer's marks are disabled.
Downsampling, or decreasing resolution, of images is disabled.
Bleeds are enabled (if applicable).

Sorry for the lengthy 'ingredients' but I'm really not sure where to begin with this stuff!

Thanks.

I don't think so, Gimp is a raster graphics application and your image (including any text in the image) will end up as a bitmap, not a vector.

A couple of possibilities to explore. Gimp will make your graphic images but watch out for the printing company requirements, usually they want CMYK colour which Gimp does not directly support. Then add text as a separate process.

try
A dedicated application such as Scribus, I have never used it but it looks the part.

or
A bit simpler 'LibreOffice Draw' will import your graphic and you can then add text. When you come to export as a PDF, not many options but there are tick boxes for 'PDF/A-1a' and 'Embed Standard Fonts'.
