Embedded Path in JPG not available
Hi, j pgs can contain paths info.
In Photoshop you'll be able to get that path.

We use it alot for packshots, this way we can save a JPG, but with an embedded outline Path, this way you'll always be able to "cut out" the packshot by selecting the path.

Sadly it does not work with gimp =/

Not really... JPG can contain some free-text comments and metadata, that some specific software can (ab)use to hold clipping paths (in what format? can you point to an official standard (IPTC/XMP/EXIF?)).

In Gimp, you can export/import paths as SVG files (SVG is a standard for vectors graphics). These paths can be used to determine a selection for clipping. You can also export the selection mask as a PNG.

IIRC TIFF (which is anyway an immensely better format for storage than JPEG) supports paths in some standard fashion.

The JPEG format is a container and can contain additional things, besides the image. There is some standard ones like EXIF, IPTC and XMP data.

If needed you can recover the clipping path: install the ImageMagick utility. It's "identify" will list the path in SVG format, and this format can be imported in Gimp as a path:

RE: Embedded Path in JPG not available
Ok, do-able, but sounds a bit complicated, and you'll end up dealing with more than one file..import paths seperately etc. atleast thats how i read it.

Thanks for elaborating!
