Editing an Un-editable png with GIMP
Hi Guys,

I have this png that comes with twitter bootstrap, and would like to change the colors of the icons in that.

It's used as css sprite. Problem is, the png file cannot be edited. However, one guy somewhere said he did manage to change the color of the icons in the png, and said he used GIMP to do it.

How can I do such a thing using GIMP? Can GIMP unlock a PNG that cannot be edited, for editing?

I've linked to 3 Images here. The first and second (black and white) are the originals that come when you download twitter bootstrap. The Blue one is the edited png.

How can I do this? I'd like to create files in 2 or 3 more colors. Would really appreciate any help with this.

RE: Editing an Un-editable png with GIMP
Your problem is that your PNG is greyscale... so:

- Image>Mode>RGB to make the PNG full-color
- Lock the alpha channel (checkerboard icon in the "Lock" line at the top if the layer list)
- Bucket-fill with the color you want (the alpha-lock will preserve pixel opacity).

Of course, the blue-tone image above is not greyscale, so it can be edited without changing it first to RGBSmile
