Drawing with a grayscale pencil drawn look to it.
Hi so I'm back and I have another "not sure how one would go about doing this" type of question. I wanna take an image and turn it into an animation that transitions from a full colored image to a grayscale one that has a pencil drawn effect. So basically it starts as a full color drawing that as the animation moves forward changes to a full grayscale type drawing?

If my explanation is complicated and you don't understand let me know and I will try and clarify it.

If I understand your requirements correctly...
A quick solution would be to use the GMIC plugin to quickly achieve this conversion to b&w sketch and animation.
Open your colored image in Gimp and run the GMIC filter called Pencil. (GMIC->Black & White->Pencil)

Then choose the GMIC filter Morph Layers. (GMIC->Layers->Morph Layers).

Remove the original image layer and the Pencil layer.
Export as Animated GIF.

Hey Captain_Cereal_Hands!

I also made a similar effect using a combination of Gimp and my computer video software(easy too)
See the line-drawing to full color effect in action on my intro video:

In Gimp:
make two images. One with color & one with the pencil colored effect.

In your computer's video editing program or 3rd party video editor:
Then import both photos side by side in a win movie maker or any video program that can do *slide/fade transitions (like fade & wipe)

Last, add the transition between both pictures. BOOM! ^_^

For the Pencil/drawing effect image:
(the settings in below image are only for the emboss filter, you can choose your own settings if you use Photocopy)
enlarge for full details ^_^
