There is no clear question either. What is the actual problem?

if drag and drop doesn't work, you can use "File/Open as layers" to load additional images as new layers (you can even load several images in one pass).

RE: drag and drop help please
In other versions of Windows and Gimp, drag and drop works... (2.7 is the "debug" version of 2.8 so it may have problems).

All very inconsistent as far as drag-n-drop is concerned.

Using Parthas portable Gimp 2.7.4 in WinXP.

Same as Gimp 2.6.x
Drag from desktop to canvas and it opens as layers
Drag from desktop to toolbox and it opens as a new image.

However, my compile, Gimp 2.7.4 in PCLinuxOS
Using images the same size, no problem, drag-n-drop from the desktop to canvas works.
Open an A4 new image (say for a flyer) and those same images do not drag-n-drop.
Even more strange, using the regular file manager 'Dolphin'. Drag from Dolphin to canvas not working, but does work with my preferred file manager Krusader.

Anyway, much as I like Gimp, maybe Inkscape would be a better application for making a flyer.
