double bucket fill not working like it does in PSP
I have an image that has a white background but that darkens in the immediate neighborhood of the image in question. So I do a bucket fill (red) with the threshold of 15 that sets the entire white(ish) area to red. So far so good. But then when I switch to fill this red area to white with the same threshold, I find small pixels of red adjacent to the image. I don't see how that is happening since the first fill set the entire filled region to one color (red) and I would expect that the second fill would completely replace all red with my new color (white). What's up?

Hi DRT900,
Have a read of this. It might shed some light on your question.

RE: double bucket fill not working like it does in PSP
Thank you for the link and the remarks. However, at the link I read the following: "you should never, ever, use any processing that destroys [anti-aliased pixels]". That is precisely what I want to do, destroy them. I want a clean (and jagged) border prior to subsequent processing (e.g. re-sizing in Irfanview or tracing in Inkscape).

GIMP did not perform as suggested in the link/tutorial. Yes, a high threshold bucket-fill caused the anti-aliasing pixels to disappear (Yay!) but a subsequent bucket-fill of a different color got most, but not all, of the just-filled-region. I would very much appreciate knowing why this is the case.

I found a solution - which other people who are familiar with Paint Shop Pro's handling of threshold fill will appreciate - and that is to change the "Fill by" method from "Composite" to "Red" (at least that's one that worked for me). Not sure what it's all about, but it changed all the pixels I wanted - including the anti-aliasing ones - to solid red, and then solid white - leaving a hard jagged edge on curves that I was seeking.
