delete default pre-installed brushes
I want to delete the default brushes in Gimp, like the famous green pepper and others that I find not useful to me. I know how to do this but is there's a reason why the pre-installed brushes cannot be deleted with the brush editor?

RE: delete default pre-installed brushes
If you gt to Edit/Preferences/Folders/Brushes you will see that it lists two folders, one in your Gimp profile which is writable and one in the Gimp installation directory, which is not. The defaults brushes are in the latter, so that's the explanation.

And why the Gimp installation directory isn't writable? Because it's potentially shared by several users... (think "family PC").

However, in that same dialog, it seems possible to remove the default Brushes directory from the ones your own instance of Gimp will use...

RE: delete default pre-installed brushes
I make all brushes folders writable in Preferences and now I can delete anything.
But ... the brushes I delete are not in the Trash. Do you know where they are?

In the howling ether... they have been really deleted, not "moved to Trash". But if these are standard brushes they are easy to recover. This also explains why it's better to install things in your own profile, it's more likely to be backed up somewhere (assuming you do backups of course).
