Define Alpha Channel Color
There seems to be tons of threads on how to make a transparent image, but I haven't been able to fine one to do one specific thing.

How do I set the alpha channel to be black? I want to have a black background on a png file, but I need the black to be transparent to things behind it on a webpage.

RE: Define Alpha Channel Color
The alpha channel has no color... it just indicates how opaque pixels are.

Wanting a black background and a transparent background are two rather opposite things. If you want a partially transparent black background then (assuming the existing layers have transparent areas) add a black background layer, and use the "Opacity" slider at the top of the Layers list to adjust its transparency.

If you want it to be full transparent, then its color is completely irrelevant. It doesn't even need to exist.
